Updated

The words you meet when you run, or live in, a housing society — and what they mean in RWA Connect 360. These are short explanations, not legal or financial advice.

AGM

Annual general meeting: the yearly meeting of a society's members, where the committee reports on the year and members vote on matters the society's rules leave to them.

Bill

What one flat owes for one period. RWA Connect 360 raises each flat's bill by itself when a new period starts.

Bye-laws

The written rules a society runs by: who can be a member, how the committee is chosen, and how meetings work. Each society has its own.

Committee

The elected members who run a society, such as the president, secretary and treasurer. In RWA Connect 360, admins set it up under Governing Body and residents see it under Committee. Being on the committee does not by itself make someone an admin in the app.

Counsellor

An independent advisor some societies have on RWA Connect 360. When enough residents support it, a resident's ticket can go to the counsellor. See raise a support ticket.

DPDP Act

India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023: the law on how personal data is collected, used and kept. You can ask for a copy of your data or for its deletion. See your privacy settings.

Due date

The last day to pay a bill before it is overdue — usually the day the bill starts, plus the society's grace period.

Flat

One home in a society: a flat in a tower, a floor of a builder floor, or a house. Some screens call it a unit.

Grace period

The extra days a society gives residents to pay after a bill starts, before it counts as overdue. Each society sets its own.

Joining fee

A one-time fee some societies charge a new member. In RWA Connect 360 it is billed when an admin approves the new resident.

Maintenance

The regular amount each flat pays its society for upkeep of what everyone shares, such as security, cleaning and common areas. In RWA Connect 360 it is the fee on each flat's bill. See pay maintenance by UPI.

Owner and tenant

Whether a resident owns their flat or rents it. A flat's maintenance bill goes to its owner.

Petition

A letter residents sign in the app, for the committee to send to an outside authority.

Pro-rata

In proportion to the time that is left. A resident approved partway through a period pays only for the part of the period that is left.

Receipt

Proof of a payment. RWA Connect 360 makes one for every payment a society records or confirms. See find your receipts.

RWA

Resident welfare association: a body of the residents of a colony, sector or housing complex that looks after their shared services and speaks for them. Most are registered societies run by an elected committee.

Session

A society's accounting year, for example April 2026 to March 2027. The app shows it as 2026-27.

Society code

The short code at the end of a society's joining link. See join your society.

Ticket

A problem or request a resident raises with their society's committee in the app.

UPI

Unified Payments Interface: India's way of paying straight from a bank account with a phone app such as Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm.

UTR

Unique transaction reference: the number a bank gives every payment. For a UPI payment it is usually 12 digits. A resident who pays their society by UPI sends it, so the admin can find the payment. See pay maintenance by UPI.

Waiver

Forgiving a bill, with a reason, so it does not have to be paid. In RWA Connect 360 an admin can undo a waiver.

Write-off

Forgiving what a resident owes when their flat is transferred to someone else. Unlike a waiver, it can never be undone.
